Description

Learn Mountaineering!

The Mountaineering Camps are your springboard into the big mountains. With the right coaching and practice-oriented tours, we help you become more confident and independent in high alpine terrain.

🔍 What You’ll Face

On mountaineering tours, you’ll encounter various alpine challenges: snow, ice, rock, weather, equipment, and group dynamics. We coach you in all of these disciplines with a clear focus on real mountain environments.

🎯 Course Objective

We build on your existing skills with modern mountaineering techniques and practical coaching. The aim is to give you the tools for safe, independent high mountain tours in summer – whether for private goals or future climbs.

This course is designed for motivated hikers and alpinists who want to take the next step toward autonomy.

📚 What You’ll Learn

  • How to build anchors in rock and ice
  • Crevasse rescue and rope team techniques
  • Belaying on snow ridges and rock terrain
  • Effective use of crampons and ice axes
  • Practical risk management and tour planning
  • Application tours with real-time decision-making

This is not a classroom experience – everything is taught outdoors in the field.

📍 Locations & Dates

We choose the location based on the date – e.g. Sustenpass, Furka, Bernese Alps or other alpine regions in Central Switzerland.

Impressions

Team

Dani Perret

“Skiing in the adventure area means a lot to me. With some imagination and the right skills, you can experience something in all conditions. Thanks to rope & skins, you can reach slopes and gullies that will make your heart beat faster.”

Dani was born and raised in the same area as Piers. The adventure in the mountains attracted him already as a child and teenager again and again to lonely and secluded terrain. He feels at home on skis, mountain-, climbing- or trailrunning shoes, in all disciplines. The focus is not so much on relative performance, but rather on lasting experiences with the highest possible level of safety.

Dani is a full-time mountain guide in winter as well as summer, stationed in Engelberg. Again and again he discovers the Engelberg valley and the surrounding areas in the Alps with new eyes and is happy to share his newly gained ideas with you.

Robert Lönnell

“Robert Lönnell a Swedish IFMGA / UIAGM / IVBV mountain guide. He has lived in Engelberg with his family since 2009.”

Robert started skiing at a young age and after finishing school he was ready to leave Sweden and start exploring different mountains and terrain.
After 10 years of travelling to different places such as Chamonix, Tirol, Canada and more he came to Engelberg in 2009 and decided to turn his passion for the mountains into a career.
He now works full time as a professional IFMGA Mountain Guide.
Skiing powder, climbing walls or guiding you up your dream peak. He is always happy to take you out in to the mountains.

FAQ

🧗‍♀️ What are the requirements?

Good overall fitness, surefootedness, and hiking experience are essential – we operate in alpine terrain. A head for heights and some climbing experience are definitely a plus. If you’re comfortable with ascents of around 1200 vertical meters, this camp is for you.

🎒 Can I rent equipment?

Yes! You can rent all necessary equipment from us – just let us know in advance so we can arrange everything for you.

🌍 Are the camps available in English?

Yes, the camps are conducted in both German and English. Everyone should feel comfortable – whether local or international.

💰 What’s included and what’s not?

Included: Organization, pre-camp briefing, guiding by a certified UIAGM mountain guide or guide aspirant, guide’s expenses, and camp photos.

Not included: Your travel, overnight stay at an SAC hut with half-board, and additional beverages.

🌧️ What happens in bad weather?

If the weather is poor, we’ll look for suitable alternatives – possibly changing locations. A little rain won’t stop us 😉. If conditions are truly unacceptable, we will reschedule the camp. If you can’t attend the new date, you’ll receive a credit.

🤕 What if I get sick or injured?

In this case, our terms and conditions apply. We strongly recommend purchasing travel cancellation insurance – better safe than sorry!

📅 What does the camp program look like?

Day 1: Rock training (climbing techniques, knots, belaying, rappelling, anchor building)
Day 2: Glacier/snowfield training with ice axe & crampons, roped travel, snow/ice anchors, and theory for tour planning
Day 3: Summit tour in rope teams, applying what you’ve learned directly in the terrain

🧳 What should I bring?

A full packing list can be found in the detailed info. Essentials include mountain boots, helmet, ice axe, harness, silk sleeping bag liner, sunglasses, waterproof clothing, and more.

🏨 What is the accommodation like?

You’ll stay in SAC huts like Spannorthütte or Grassenbiwak with half-board included. It’s basic but authentic alpine hut life – including fresh glacier water. No showers available.

🧠 How is tour planning taught?

On the second evening we’ll go over map reading and route planning. On day three, you’ll put your knowledge to the test during the summit tour.

🧑‍🤝‍🧑 How are the groups divided?

Groups are divided based on experience – beginners and more advanced participants will train at their own level. Flexible and fair!

💳 How does payment work?

After registering, you’ll receive an invoice as a PDF. Please transfer the amount via bank payment no later than 10 days before the camp starts.

🛡️ What insurance is recommended?

We recommend accident and health insurance that covers alpine activities, travel cancellation insurance, and being a supporter of REGA for mountain rescue coverage.
