“A couloir (French for corridor) is a narrow gully on a mountain slope or wall, often filled with snow or ice.” (Wikipedia)

The Fascination of Couloirs

Couloir riding is spectacular: steep lines, rock walls, sharp focus – it’s an intense experience. And the best part? It often works even in bad visibility or snowfall. No white-out, no getting lost. Just you, your splitboard, and the line in front of you.

Our Couloir Camp takes place in the pre-alpine Bannalp–Brisen region: fjord vibes with a view over Lake Lucerne, often excellent snow conditions – and countless exciting lines to explore.

Who is this camp for?

For splitboarders with solid touring experience, who feel confident on their splitboard and are keen on challenging, steep tours with an alpine character. It’s not a competition – but a huge chance to progress, learn, and push your limits!

Program

Day 1 – Kick-off & Rope Skills

Meeting point at Bannalp. After a gear check and short briefing we head into the terrain. In small workshop blocks we practice:

  • Rope handling & tactics in couloirs
  • Route choice & avalanche assessment
  • Track setting & communication

Depending on conditions: descent into Isental or through a north couloir at Chaiserstock. Overnight stay in Gitschenen.

Day 2 – Application & Tactics

Tour around the Brisen area. Focus is on applying what we learned the day before:

  • Risk management in steep terrain
  • Riding technique in couloirs: tactics & line choice
  • Rappelling, improvisation & group leadership

Overnight stay in Brisenhaus or on Haldigrat.

Day 3 – Couloir Gems of the Pre-Alps

Around Brisen, Schwalmis or Musenalp. Depending on conditions we pick the best couloir. Goal: consolidate what we’ve learned and clear any open questions.
